A porthole is an opening onto the horizon. At VALA Marine Heritage, it becomes the frame of an artwork shaped by material, colour and light.
Each creation combines an authentic porthole with carefully selected glass, shaped and painted by hand. The marks of the maker, the shades within the glass and subtle variations in texture are not flaws: they make every piece alive and unique.
Designed for interiors with character, our creations belong naturally in a coastal home, yacht, hotel, restaurant or any space inspired by the sea.

CRAFT AND MATERIAL
Made through a series of considered steps
01 — Selection
We select the porthole, glass and materials for their character, quality and visual balance.
02 — Composition
The design is developed around the natural movement of the glass, its transparency and the way light will pass through it.
03 — Glasswork
The glass is cut, prepared and painted by hand. Traditional glass paint and textural effects add depth, contrast and individuality.
04 — Assembly
The glass is integrated into the porthole with particular attention to visual balance, stability and finishing details.
05 — Signature
The finished piece is inspected, numbered and issued with its certificate of authenticity before being carefully protected for shipping.
AN IDENTIFIABLE WORK
Certificate of authenticity
Every VALA Marine Heritage creation comes with a certificate stating its name, number, principal materials and completion date.
Small irregularities, variations in shade and differences in texture are evidence of the handcrafted process. They ensure that no two works are exactly alike.
Included with each creation:
certificate of authenticity;
individual or edition number;
description of the materials;
installation and care recommendations;
workshop signature or mark.

Would you like a piece designed for your home, boat or venue? Subject to technical feasibility and material availability, we can develop a bespoke creation with you.

We can explore a statement piece, a coherent limited series or a creation designed for a specific location. Dimensions, installation constraints, lead times and shipping requirements are reviewed with the client before a quotation is issued.
CAREFULLY PROTECTED
From our workshop to your interior
Every piece is inspected and packaged with protection appropriate for glass and metal. Shipping terms, cost and delivery time depend on the destination, weight and dimensions of the creation.
For direct purchases, the applicable amount is displayed before payment or confirmed before dispatch. For bespoke works, shipping conditions are included in the quotation.
Each work comes with instructions covering handling, mounting and care. Unless expressly stated otherwise, the creations are intended for decorative indoor use and are not certified marine portholes for structural, exterior or submerged installation.
Frequently asked questions
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, depending on the destination. Shipping costs, lead times and any required formalities are confirmed before dispatch.
Can I return a creation?
The return conditions for available pieces are set out in the Terms and Conditions of Sale. Creations made to a customer's specifications may be excluded from the right of withdrawal where permitted by applicable law.
Is every piece unique?
Yes. Some works are completely unique, while others belong to a small numbered edition. Even within an edition, natural variations in the glass and the handcrafted process make every example different.
Can I purchase a creation directly?
Yes, when it is marked “Available”. Payment can then be completed through a secure Stripe page. Bespoke creations begin with a proposal and quotation.
Do you accept commissions?
Yes, subject to material availability and technical feasibility. You can share your preferences, dimensions and photographs through the dedicated enquiry form.
Is lighting included?
Lighting is not included unless this is expressly stated on the product page. A separate lighting solution may be considered depending on the project.
Can I install the work outside or on a boat?
The use of an authentic porthole does not mean that the artwork is certified for structural, exterior or submerged installation. The intended use must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis before purchase.
